Benihana was the lifelong dream of Japanese-born American wrestler and restaurateur Hiroaki “Rocky” Aoki, who founded Benihana in 1964 with its first restaurant in New York City. Now headquartered in Miami, Florida, the company owns or franchises roughly 116 Japanese cuisine restaurants around the world, including its flagship Benihana Teppanyaki brand, Haru Japanese fusion restaurant and RA Sushi restaurants.

Benihana is passionate about growth, growth and more growth. The company plans to open many new locations in the coming years and several existing locations are undergoing remodeling. Safflower dye was incredibly popular during Japan's Heian period (794-1185), and was a regular ingredient in Japanese cosmetics and traditional clothing.
